Long, drawn-out divorce proceedings may soon be a thing of the past.
According to local FOX affiliate FOX40, Sacramento Judge James Mize has designed a program that makes it quick and easy to untie the knot in just one day. The program -- which officially starts Friday -- is aimed at people who can't afford to hire a divorce lawyer.
We are pulling folks who are at the bottom, who dont have any help, who dont have any representative assistance, Mize told NBC affiliate KCRA in March 2013.
Eighty attorneys, law students and other staff will volunteer their services to help couples discuss the terms of their divorce agreements and prepare all of the necessary paperwork to obtain the final judgment. Once these steps are completed, the parties will go before the judge the same day and can leave the courthouse with a finalized judgment of dissolution of marriage in hand.
