Ok, so I built my own computer not too long ago and I made a thread a couple of days ago about getting that blue screen of death. I took the tower to a computer place around my house so he could give it a diagnostic and let me know what the problem(s) is/were .. (this was this past Thursday) .. the guy told me he'd get back to me the following day. After waiting all day .. he never called, so I went up to his shop again. Dude tells me .. he ran some diagnostic work and came up empty .. but give him till Monday (yesterday) and he'll have it all figured out. Monday came and went .. then came today.

I walked into his shop asking him what the deal was, and why no call? He said he ran checks on the power supply, the video card (which I bought from him) and the hard drive (brand new Seagate 2tb) .. and it all came up working fine. The only thing he couldn't check out was the motherboard cause he didn't have one on deck to compare it to. So it led him to believe that was the problem. (Makes sense .. I think.)

Anyways .. he then tells me he couldn't instal a newer version of windows, and the one he DID install .. I wouldn't be able to install any updates .. because for whatever reason the computer wouldn't let him. Next thing I know .. I ask him how much .. and he charges me $80.00 :merchant:

I wasn't gonna start nothing cause he had other customers in the store and I was happy that at least my shyt was working. Soon as I got home .. I try to dload Firefox and I get the blue screen again. :sadcam:

Long story short .. is there any way I can list the parts I have and the parts I'd like to buy and see if they're compatible? Cause I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to get a new motherboard .. but I wanna make sure I can use it with all my other parts. This is what I'm rockin with ..

Motherboard:

ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P5N-E SLI

Video Card:

MSI Global ? Graphics Card - R4350-MD512H

Hard Drive: (the 2tb version)

Barracuda | Seagate

Power Supply:

Newegg.com - APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 500W ATX Power Supply

HELP!! :bryan:

Edit: I'm bout to go get my money back first thing in the morning. :birdman: Also .. forgot to mention .. I'd like this computer to somewhat beast... especially for my little neice that loves to game on it. (WoW, Call of Duty ect.)

Ok, red flag just went up but i could be wrong. Won't take long to test this, though.

Your GPU has no fan on it. I see it has a heatsink but even so... that shyt could be overheating quick. If dude can, tell him to put it in another computer PCI-e slot and run a temp monitor. I'm willing to bet that's it.

If you get a small aftremarkt fan for it, it could be fine. But thing is, i had an ATi 4350 (same as you have) YEARS ago. It's not high-performance, it's more like a low-performing card.

It could also be memory errors, maybe some of your ram went bad....honestly tho, what kind of pc tech guy doesn't have a few spare motherboards or power supplies laying around? lol, he could have swapped those and tested those easily as well.

That's what I couldn't understand. It's a mom and pop shop .. but still .. I dont even know what to think. I bought that video card from him a week prior for $80 also, cause my card went bad. The fan wasn't working on it and it was overheating really bad.

As for memory errors .. I dont think that could be it, cause I just bought that Hard Drive, and haven't even barely had a chance to even browse the net yet.

This part kinda gets me mad .. cause I told dude I was having issues with my cpu .. he diagnosed it and said it was an issue with the video card and he changed my old one for this one. I asked him how good it was, cause games are played on my computer, and he tells me its really damn good especially for the price ($80.00) .. and I said ok. If it's that much of a lower end card .. I would have rather thrown in another 20-30 dollars and gotten a better/more up to date one. I'm about to go have a talk with dude. :leostare:

yeah, that pc guy is no good then, he sells you a really old card for 80 dollars lol, and memory errors doesn't mean your hard drive, its the actual ram, he should have some of that laying around as well lol, or at least know how to run a memory diagnostic tool of some sort

Update:
Dude said he checked everything but the motherboard and everything was ok again so he assumes thats it. He installed windows 7 ultimate for me and it worked fine at his shop but when i got home, all sorts of errors and blue screens. For whatver reason it wont let me run the 64 bit opperating system.. only the 32. Which makes no sense cause my motherboard is built to run a 64. :wtf: anyways, dude told me to buy another motherboard and he'll install it for me since ive already paid and the problem hasnt been fixed.

Should i cop another motherboard and let him install it or should i try to get my loot back and find somewhere else to go? Thing is... i can go to compusa or best buys geek squad and they'll do it, but theyre wanting to charge $100 on TOP of whatever motherboard i get. I aint got chedder like that brehs. :sadcam:

Somone throw some good motherboards for gaming my way. Budget bing.. iono .. $150-200 max. Migh aswell throw me some video card bargains also. Sorry to keep upping this shyt thread.. but im tryna learn the ways of the geek na'mean?

Yea its a recent build. The mobo is a hand me down from my ole ladys cousin. So is the power supply. The hard drive is BRAND new from best buy and the video card.. well i bought that pos from the tech guy at the mom and pop place cause my old video card went to shyt.

I dont mind getting a piece per week to make the system somewhat beastly.. but what would be the order in which i need to go about it? Obviously ill need to buy the mobo first.

As for the tower.. im pretty sure its an asus tower. Bought it on ebay for 40 bones.
