I finally got around to watching the Godfather Epic (which is outstanding btw; probably won't watch it the traditional way anymore). And I'm wondering... Do you think Sollozzo goes after Vito if Vito doesn't send Luca Brasi to try and spy on him first? Because that's the decision that really sent things spiraling out of control for the family.
Do you think that was a good call by Vito? Or did he jump the gun?:jbhmm:

I didn see the movie in a while. I dont remember why they had to kill Vito :yeshrug:
Solozo told him that he needed those politicians that he carries in his pocket and a million dollars.
With vito dead that political power was gone. Sonny could never guarantee political protection without his father even if he was "hot for the deal"
And i guess solozo could've gotten the money from the tattaglias.

Vito said that he does not give a fukk what a man does to make a living. There was no point of killing him from solozzo's poit of view.

The Luca thing seemed foolish on Vitos part since Sollazo easily detected it. Vito still underestimated Sollazo even though he was worried about him. Guess there wasn't much he could've done to prevent what was to happen.

I think Vito saw everything coming, which is why he never wanted Michael to be apart of anything, and especially didn't want Fredo to touch shyt. His hope was Santino to not be a jackass and be the strength of the family moving forward. Going legit was always the plan, since he knew the wolves were at the door. The Luca move was his best play, IMO. Sollozzo brought that extra gutta to the game, and sniffed that shyt out with the quickness.

Micheal even stated that even his dad knew his ways of doing things were over. I suspect that meant honor above all, even when vicious about they business. I think had Vito had fully recovered, and was able to run shyt for a little while longer, he would have made similar moves that Michael did.

Sollozo was plotting anyways he wanted that drug money one way or another

Based on what? Sollozo didn't go blood on the Corleone's until Vito sent Luca. Sending Luca was basically a declaration of war.

Yes he wouldve anyways.

Moatly due to Sonny being receptive to the drug business.

What does Sonny's interest in the drugs have to do with Sollozo going after Vito?

I agree. After that initial meeting I can't see Sollozo walking out of there thinking an all out war with the Corleone family is his next best move. Dude was focused on his business. He was worth keeping an eye on but not worth sending in one of your top dudes to spy. Everybody knows Luca is ya man, and after our meeting all the sudden he want to come work for me :childplease: That was some elementary sh*t.

Very foolish move... and rushed.

It was business. Wanted Vito out of the way to get the politicians and businesses to migrate to other sides and make it easier for them to start dealing drugs

That's possible.

If that were the case then Vito needed to move smarter than that. That first move was not the move.

How sway? :jbhmm:

Yeah he needed to move smarter but that's why Solozzo said he was slipping in his old age and years ago he couldn't have gotten to him

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
You think Sonny is working with him after murking his pops? Corleone's weren't stupid they would have figured it out.
seems everyone was making stupid ass moves

but maybe that was what the movie was showing... that the old way of thinking was dated and not working anymore. back in the day bosses didn't kill bosses... not like that.. and you didn't recklessly kill people's number 2's either

going to the mattress was the LAST resort.

vito probably thought he'd let luca in, or say nah, we see what you planning and send him off.. not just murder him like that. even after that he was still riding around without real protection, not even fearing a hit. just him and his dumbass son like it wasn't a problem

solozzo was also fukking stupid... doing the hit on luca and a fukking boss and thinking it was all good.. thinking sonny would just be like, "well dad's dead from a random shooting, lets go ahead and deal these drugs"

then going to meet up with mike, again, with 1 other fukking guy, as if there wasn't major fukking beef on these streets and ANYONE could have followed/snitch on locale/seen him out there with no protection

everyone was making dumb moves till michael advanced the game

Not true, the movie showed that the old ways were still the best ways. Sonny wasn't following the old ways and was flying off the handle not thinking things through and that got him clapped up real quick. Sollozzo was on his Marlo Stanfield skeez trying to bum rush everybody and just take what he wanted... but it didn't work in the end.

Michael and Vito were the only old school G's left in the game (Tom Hagen too) that's how Vito knew how to end all of this and dropped them jewels to Michael in the garden on how the enemies would reveal themselves. Once Michael took over he exterminated virtually everyone that he deemed a traitor to the game... in the end the old school ways won and showed they still work even though everyone turn their backs on the rules.
