I just created an ill drum pattern and ive had producers block since then, been looking for all sorts of samples to chop or melodies to create but it just aint happening.

i went on whosampledthis website and looked at a few samples for inspiration and ive noticed a few samples where a certain instrument is heard but the rest of unheard. for example i went to see who was sampled on this wiz song

and it samples this song at 0:12

were the notes just replayed or was it sampled from the actual clip?

same clip Slowed down and pitched down. If you're talking about the drums sounds taken out that's done with some filtering and EQ. Also when the producer adds there drums to the sample it won't sound the same.

man...is there any sort of tutorial video to learn this stuff? because if i was to sample the same clip there is no way i could get the sax to come out as clear as dude did in this beat no matter how much i EQ it!

a lot of producers have musicians replay/interpolate samples, thus isolating an instrument.

chances are it was replayed then resampled

Don't Believe the Hype
If you notice, the original sample has the trumpet panned all the way to the right. What they do sometimes is take the sample and make it mono with the right channel in the center. You can still hear the wah guitar in the left channel faintly on the Wiz track.

They do this trick a lot to help get rid of unwanted aspects of the original track being sampled. For instance, on Biggie's "Who Shot Ya." This, along with some EQing, helps to isolate a certain sound.

If you use FL Studio, this is the trick that I use...It doesn't always work, because it depends on how the original song was mixed...

I use Fruity Stereo Enhancer to make a certain sound more prominent that others...Fruity Stereo Enhancer (FSE) has an "INVERT" section, and I set it to either left or right (I have yet to notice a difference with either option)...Then I start playing around with the "STEREO SEP" and "PHASE OFFSET" knobs until I get something like...In addition, the FL Studio mixer has a stereo separation knob...It is the first knob above the "Insert" volume slider...So, you have the stereo separation knob, the pan knob and then the insert volume slider...

I play with the stereo separation knob until I get what I want to hear...After that, I use filters ...

This is my foundation...I have been able to either get rid of vocals or turn them down using this method...But it all depends on how the original sample was mixed...Sometimes too many sounds get turned down and the sample loses its "feel'...
