Yeah, you'll be confused as hell until like the last 30 minutes and the ending is great and it's that confusion that keeps you interested in that you HAVE to see how this shyt comes together. And even when it does you still really won't expect the ending to be what it was. shyt is violent and spirtual but it makes sense and this movie has twists that just aren't there for the sake of curving on you, they fit into the plot (at the end).
shyt does drag in spots here and there it's not perfect but if I had to recommend a film to someone looking to get into foreign films this would be it. Audition is another good film if you do decide to watch and end up liking Old Boy.

anyone who tells you this movie is "amazing" or that the ending twist is "incredible" is just trying to masturbate their own ego or they are stupid as hell. this movie is above average but thats about it. i dont wanna spoil the ending for you if you are actually interested but i will say that it doesn't really wrap up the story or give you a definitive answer of what you just saw.

Although I think 'Oldboy' is slightly overrated...it isn't above average. Its too well acted, too well directed and too intelligent to be damned with faint praise. Go watch something like 'Les Miserables' if you wanna see something that is above average.
If by the definitive answer you mean where Oldboy.....
.. went to the hypnotist to try to forget the truth about fukking his daughter I don't think we are truly meant to know. In the very end when he's hugging her his expression is puposesly hard to tell if he remembers fukking her or he's just happy to see her. You cant really tell but i think he still knows everything.
acting, great. i agree. directing, great. i agree. too intelligent? naw the story is easily the weakest part of this movie and it is what is preventing me from saying the movie is good. the story straight up makes no sense at all the concept is decent but the way it plays out is convoluted and just kind of stupid.
or he got his mind erased completely and is gonna keep fukking his daughter without a care in the world

Classic movie, part of the "vengeance trilogy" by the same director, Park Chan-wook. "Oldboy", "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" and "Lady Vengeance".
Another movie along the same lines is "I Saw The Devil". Korea has had cinema on smash for a while now. "The Chaser", "The Man From Nowhere" and "A Bittersweet Life" are all
