Scream might be seen as a '90s horror classic, but Quentin Tarantino thinks he could've done a better job than the film's director Wes Craven.

In a wide-ranging interview with Vulture, Tarantino addressed his aversion to becoming a franchise director for hire, but revealed that he was interested in putting his own stamp on Kevin Williamson's Scream script in the '90s.

"I could have imagined doing the first Scream. The Weinsteins were trying to get Robert Rodriguez to do it," he said.

"I don't even think they thought I would be interested. I actually didn't care for Wes Craven's direction of it. I thought he was the iron chain attached to its ankle that kept it earthbound and stopped it from going to the moon."

Quentin Tarantino thinks Wes Craven held Scream back from greatness: 'He was the iron chain'

Kinda shocked at how he shyt all over Wes Craven but I am intrigued as to just what Tarantino would have done with that original Scream movie.

Scream is a classic movie, and the first one was great imo.

That being said, I wonder if QT's spin on it would have made it better in any way:ohhh:

That whole interview is really good. The scream thing. The fact that he was offered men in black and speed and got more offers to do big studio stuff after grindhouse. His Obama support, his love for Sorkin:blessed:

From another interview :

The last time that I felt competitive was when I was doing Kill Bill and my competition was The Matrix Reloaded. That was the sword of Damocles hanging over our heads. I saw Matrix Reloaded at the Chinese Theatre the day it opened, and I walked out of the cinema singing that Jay Z song: “S-dot-Carter / Y’all must try harder / Competition is nada.” I was like, Bring it the fukk on. I was worried about that? Ho-ly shyt.

From the interview

Hateful Eight uses the Civil War as a backdrop, sort of like how The Good, the Bad and the Ugly does.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly doesn’t get into the racial conflicts of the Civil War; it’s just a thing that’s happening. My movie is about the country being torn apart by it, and the racial aftermath, six, seven, eight, ten years later.

That’s going to make this movie feel contemporary. Everybody’s talking about race right now.

I know. I’m very excited by that.

Excited?

Finally, the issue of white supremacy is being talked about and dealt with. And it’s what the movie’s about.

How did what’s happening in Baltimore and Ferguson find its way into The Hateful Eight?

It was already in the script. It was already in the footage we shot. It just happens to be timely right now. We’re not trying to make it timely. It is timely. I love the fact that people are talking and dealing with the institutional racism that has existed in this country and been ignored. I feel like it’s another ’60s moment, where the people themselves had to expose how ugly they were before things could change. I’m hopeful that that’s happening now.

Still a real one :wow:

That was also hilarious. I don't know what was funnier: him shytting on the movie or the fact that he knows that obscure ass song from volume three
The latter. Its a top 3 worst jay song. But he's a true hov stan. He once said "if i should die" from vol 2 is the goat song ever :heh:

The Matrix along with Battle Royale were his favorite movies since he started making movies.

I can see why he was :lupe: when Matrix Reloaded was dropping the same year he did Kill Bill.

:ohhh: wow he's definitely a fan because if i should die has no place on any greatest song of all time list. And that S. Carter song is the opposite of hot fire

Hating on Wes who made scream a classic is interesting. I'm not a huge fan of scream but it's definitely a beloved film amongst horror fans. Hard to even picture QT directing it. This is a strange one. :patrice:

I'd argue Kevin Williamson made Scream a classic but that's the writer in me talking. His scripts for Scream 2 and 3 and 4 were messed with and the movies suffered. Scream 1 is the only one in the series where he was the only writer with the project, so I'd lean more on his script than Wes' direction
