A 22-year-old Queens man accused of stabbing an elderly man to death has been charged with murder as a hate crime, police sources said Tuesday.
Steven Torres, who claims the victim came on to him, was charged with killing Ever Orozco, 69, in an anti-gay attack Monday afternoon.
Sources said the attack occurred after Orozco, who is married, parked his car after dropping his wife off at a doctor's office. Torres attacked Orozco at 90th St. and Roosevelt Ave. then fled, but police caught him six blocks away and arrested him, police said. The knife used to kill Orozco was recovered, police said.
"He (Torres) said the victim was blowing kisses to him. That's what set him off," a source said. "This is what he is claiming."
