A Philadelphia mom is in custody at a Maryland hospital after she ditched her disabled son in a wooded area and skipped town to visit her boyfriend, according to authorities.
A passerby in Cobbs Creek Park discovered the 21-year-old man, a nonverbal quadriplegic who also has cerebral palsy, lying near an empty wheelchair with a Bible on his chest on Friday night after he was abandoned for five days without any provisions, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The unidentified victim is receiving treatment for a cut on his back, dehydration, malnutrition and exposure at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and is in stable condition following the 9 p.m. rescue, WCAU-TV reported.
The mother, 41-year-old Nyia Parler, was arrested overnight in Silver Spring, Md., a Montgomery police official told the Daily News. She was taken to a local hospital for an undisclosed reason following her arrest, authorities said. She's expected to be charged with a slew of crimes, including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and neglect of a dependent person, according to media reports.
