I'm hoping Phil's comments about the PG thing are gamesmanship. Hopefully he's just trying to keep Agents and GM's from trying to play the "you need him so we want more from you" card.

I love the Rambis comments. Whether they're telling Rambis to give Melo some damned breaks and let the young bucks get more reps. Winning now isn't as important as the future.

The "it's up to Melo, he has the clause" comment is great too. If Melo doesn't like the direction he can take a trade we like and we can move on to a real rebuild. But Phil ain't dumping Melo for crap just because he's unhappy...Again I hope.

And last but not least "Kurt found a rotation, Fish didn't" is my favorite comment. Complained about it until Fish got fired and pointed it out as the sole reason I take Kurt over Fish too. So I agree 100%

I know I've been sayin' this all year, but In the 15 games prior to that dumbass ref getting in the way, Melo put up 22, 5 and 8 on 50% from the field. In the 13 games since he took the game off against Memphis, Melo is dropping 24, 4 and 9 on 46% from the field. He's averaging 22, 4 and 8 on the season right now with his FG% starting to move closer to career norms and that's in spite of returning from knee surgery at the start of the season as well as that freak ref incident. I'm not proclaiming that dude is still in his prime, but the narrative that he's finished which has been pushed due to the team's overall success (or lack thereof) is premature as hell. All I'm saying is we better not sell this guy low if we do try to trade him.
Thank you for the optimism. I needed this.

I haven't even been watching games the last couple of weeks. I'm so disillusioned. Sports man... unrelated but then I find out my Jets traded my fav player - Muhammad Wilkerson.

I can NOT wait until the offseason and I know what our future looks like.

Saddest part...if Durant goes to GSW... Porzingis' future and the Knicks futre is moot for the next 6 years anyway. :francis:

No doubt fam. Where'd you hear about a Wilkerson trade!? That's my dude. I hate to see this D-Line breaking up but Big Snacks got paid way too much imo.

Yo, those tweets cherry picked his statements hard. His PG comment was more like "if we can't get a top flight PG, we can figure out other ways to run a successful offense" rather than "we don't need a top flight PG" like people are claiming. It was less "we won't go after PG's" and more "we won't overpay for one"

He was nice to Rambis but there's a point where the reporters ask him how the team has looked under Rambis and he used the terms Inconsistent and Lethargic. Not a glowing endorsement at all. I think it sounded more like he's leaning away from Rambis than toward but being nice to dude since he's got a tough job. Phil also said he's been visiting players for discussions about their play over the course of this trip which I dig.

In a nice way he called Calderon a disappointment lol. Said dude needs to be more dynamic and dropped the guy's age on some "he's done but I respect him" ish.

Mentioned talking to Melo about the direction of the team but did it in a way that says "I'm going this way with or without him." Said Melo's NTC means that it's his choice to stay or go. He did applaud the way Melo has played while mentioning that at times Melo feels like he has to take over when he needs to trust his teammates still. I thought his Melo talk was a lot of good answers.

There's a whole Kobe Bryant section to the interview that's awesome for basketball junkies. He goes into detail of working with a young Kobe and asking him to be a leader; returning the Lakers and talking to Kobe about what he wants when Kobe demanded the trade; and mentioned how often they talk to this day. He flat out said he didn't want to be Kobe's coach at this point in Kobe's career because it's hard to see him forced to accept a losing squad that he can't do anything about. This paragraph does all of that no justice though, it was awesome.

Overall tone on FA's was that he's gonna keep being patient and he ain't gonna overpay. He basically said agents are already hitting him up about their guys going to NY but that he'll have to wait and see when they start discussing asking prices. Said there's a lot of teams with money so FA is gonna be difficult to gauge. He sounded excited about it though, at one point he said this stage of things he feels like it's Spring Break with no place to go. He wants more than 1 FA and to potentially bring guys back (throughout the interview he name dropped Langston, Lance and D-will at separate points); but acknowledged prices could be an issue with all of it.

He also made it sound like he plans on sticking around. Said he's all in for the Knicks and focuses all his effort on the Knicks right now. Which directly conflicts some prior reports, but let's be real...even his PG comments in that same interview were completely misrepresented by most beat writers on twitter (lookin' at Begley, Isola and Iazzone or whatever the fruck it's spelled). Chris Herring tweeted the whole PG speech and it's worth a look.

He sounds kind of like a coach in these statements and yeah I read Herrings stuff first (mostly cause he is the best beat writer by a mile now that Hahn is on the payroll)

The PG statement came off exactly as him saying we're not desperate. Which is true they have 3 PG prospects in Gallo, Grant, and Wroten who might make the roster next year. I also believe he's not looking for a dynamic PG either. I could see him signing Jennings and being perfectly happy with those 4 (plus maybeCalderon who unless they need the money they shouldn't waive) have guard duty

The Melo statement to me I feel is a sign he is ok with Melo here or gone. Its up to Melo. It was posted somewhere else but I could see Phil going after Jennings and Bazemore, keeping Afflalo and being set. Also if Melo is traded this team is set up to go the developmental route with the quickness.

Edit: Watching the video I definitely get the feeling that Phil would trade Melo. Especially when the Answer to "is melo untouchable to a trade" is "Melo has a NTC so its up to him"
