Yeah, Blatt enters my list because the alternatives could be Rambis or Shaw...also, cats with opinions I respect have said he's a LOT BETTER than what happened in Cleveland which nobody says about Shaw or Rambis because that'd just be wrong.
I like Blatt more than most. I think he's creative, I think he was undermined a lot. I don't think he's perfect, but he was a rookie head coach, many coaches do better their second time around.
I'd certainly prefer him to the list of people that are currently being floated (shaw/MOARrambis).
Sidenote to everyone hating on the idea of Rondo...How much better than Rondo is Conley because dude is gonna command 20+ million dollars a season while Rondo is playing for 9.5 this season and his next contract will be at 30 years old. Last season I was saying to get him on a 1+1(that's one year plus an option second year) at 7-9 milli and I'd do something similar (with even a bit of a raise to fit the cap increases) over Conley for 4 years 25 mil. Look at the rest of the PG's available, it's not pretty. Rondo's extremely intelligent and creative, we could use that and the dude has a competitive fire that we really need in the locker room. We've got a lot of character guys but they're all good soldiers and Melo is a lead by example type, somebody that'll get in a player's face for being lazy would be useful. I think Joakim Noah's close to done, but for exception money (short term btw), I'd add him for the same reason. We need a guy or two who won't stand for the listless starts and long losing streaks.
Personally, I'd agree that maybe rondo for two years at 8M is better than Conley at 20+ -- but I'm actually a little worried about the Melo/Rondo mix. In Boston it took KG (specifically) Paul Pierce AND Ray Allen PLUS Doc (not a great coach, but a great manager of egos/personalities) to keep Rondo on the rails, and going hard every night. I'm not totally sure we have that, unless Phil specifically got heavily involved.
On top of that Rondo is 30. He's definitely lost a step, he's till athletic, and still creative with the ball in his hands, and he might even be the kind of headstrong point guard that I've advocated for - the type that knows when NOT to give the ball to Melo. But I just can't personally get behind the move. Feels like a short term fix, and the truth is, even though many won't want to hear it -- next season is still going to very much be a rebuilding year. We might be in low-key tank mode again.
