With two of Marvel's 2018 releases both expected to kick off production in just about a week's time, it was only a matter of time before we got an official update on the third, Ant-Man and the Wasp!
Starting this year, Marvel Studios will begin releasing three films in a calendar year instead of the usual two we've become so accustomed to and they're kicking off their new normal with three of their heaviest hitters: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok in May, July, and November, respectively. Then, in 2018, they'll continue to up the ante with Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp.
The first two of those three 2018 releases are expected to kick off production in Atlanta within the next two weeks or so, which should give both studios more than enough time to complete the projects ahead of their respective February and May release dates. As for Ant-Man and the Wasp, things have been relatively quiet on that front recently, but it looks like we may have just received some concrete information regarding when Marvel plans on getting the ball rolling on that one.
According to a new listing on My Entertainment World, the upcoming sequel to 2015's Ant-Man will begin filming this June in Atlanta, which is just a little over a year ahead of its already assigned July 2018 release date. Paul Rudd & Evangeline Lilly will headline the film with a supporting cast that currently includes only Michael Douglas and Michael Peña. No word yet on the villain.
While nothing has been confirmed, Rudd has been rumored to have some sort of involvement in the upcoming Infinity War, but whether or not he shows up in the first part or in the 2019 sequel is uncertain at this point. As for Lilly, she previously confirmed that she won't be joining the team until the still untitled Avengers 4, which makes sense considering Hope van Dyne has yet to officially take on the Wasp mantle on-screen.
