Producers I Need Some Advice

Well I got two real big problems with my production and maybe you guys can help me.

The first one is how can I get better at chopping samples? Like what ways do you guys normally do it. For me I usually make chops of parts I like but I'm never sure whether I should chop each slice for a beat or two or just try and chop it in bars. I'm not asking y'all to give away and secrets but just curious how you guys do it. Even finding BPM could be a real bytch for me so I use a software that detects it for me

The second one is how can I make better hooks, do I try to strip away more of the instruments for the hook? Do I add more instruments for the hook? How do you guys approach it? As it stands I have a lot of stems and loops I made but just can't fully develop them into songs and it's frustrating to me lol.

so any ways to chop samples.. i use fl and they chop diff parts for me and i go from there... you can also adjust the pitch and time.. mess with that in your daw.. and hook questioin.. you could add more sounds.. thats what i do .. or put a filter or something on the hook

So damn you let it chop for you and you don't chop your own? Does it chop it with a certain time in mind like every beat or every bar?

it's weird it has beat / bar options. and medium slice sharp slice.. and that varies..

majority of the time, I manually chop samples... but with my MPC you can have it chop in regions, bpms, thresholds... and etc... as far as hooks, i keep it simple... i dont want the beat to sound to busy with too many sounds...

But how do you chop them, do you chop them by the transients? Do you try to loop them? Chop it so each chop sounds like another note?

Do you use FL? I just count it in Edison or Slicex and drag it to the playlist. Usually my chops are a bar or two bars in length, every now and then half a bar. Hooks I'll just chop a different part that sounds like a hook or add an effect to it or something. Most of my chops are loops

Nah im using beatmaker 2 an ipad app as well as a few other IOS music apps. I plan to make the transition to maschine this summer.

I also need advice on drums and maybe the brother @TEKBEATZ and the other homies around here can assist me. I'm trying to figure out how to do good boom bap style drums. Is the secret to use drum loops and time stretch them by bpm and chop them up? or can I use sample packs? Also is it about understanding the patterns more so. I have trouble especially with the hi hats and getting the grove to sound tight.

to keep it a stack the best way to learn all of this is to go on whosampled and peep the original and then look at the flip

you cann give dilla madlib just blaze kanye alchemist the same sample and they all guna give you different shyt

dilla guna get unorthidox chops from different parts all over the record

madlib just guna loop the best section

just blaze might filter different sections and play them on top of each other

havoc guna take it and pitch it down and make it extra dark
