It depends how you're flipping it


If you're just looping, then do the sample first

If you're chopping sometimes I like to do the drums (I normally will just put any drums, then beef them up later) more often than not tho, it's the sample first.

no rules but generally i used to figure out how i wanted the sample first then lay the drums to fit the way the sample flowed.

I don't think I've ever laid drums first, regardless of whether it was a sampled or non-sampled beat.

For this joint, I used 2 different samples, then just added drums around it. I want some thicker drums and a subtle bassline. Mostly all of my beats are unfinished:yeshrug:
