I like Obama. I campaigned for him. But this really irks me. Why advocate expanding SS when you don't have power or are in the lame duck part of your presidency? But when you had power, you wanted to strike a grand bargain to cut SS.

In 2011, he probably thought it would help with his re-election campaign to put SS on the Chained CPI chopping block. Luckily, the Republicans opposed it because they are programmed to oppose him no matter what.

His whole presidency he's been trying to work with people who wanted to make him a one term president. He should have said fukk them from day one. As we saw in 2012, he was going to be elected by a good margin and the majority of people support expanding social security.

but the majority of those people who who support expanding it apparently don't vote in mid-terms and congress is the lawmaking body. at the end of the day it's what the majority of representatives that are voted in by the majority of voters ... support.

anyway that's one of the marks of your legacy as a president right here: can you campaign for your party's candidate. if you can't then the people don't really like you and the candidate has to run away from you.

I think you have to also weigh the weight of a Black man being elected to the highest office in the land and the resulting racial backlash by white voters.

Wait til Michelle goes in and Trump attacks her like a dumbass. Hillary might end up with 99% of the black vote. Black folks ain't about to have the Obamas sitting there disgraced on Inauguration Day as Trump gets sworn in. From hope to dope? Nope!

The Obama administration basically dismantled their grassroots arm--Obama for America after getting elected because they thought it was not sustainable. That is what Sanders is talking about when he says a political revolution, he means keeping those people constantly engaged. The Obama administration never did that.
