I'm going list what I think his best performances are rather than how good of movie it was.

1.The great santini
2. The apostle
3.True Confessions( not to many have seen this he plays opposite deniro really underated movie
4. The Godfather 1&2
5. Apocalypse Now( Definitely would rank higher if he had a bigger role)

Again this is a list of his performances rather than actual movies although all good movies the list would be different

The Guinness Book of World Records once named Robert Duvall the most versatile actor in the world: He's worked in every genre, in masterpieces ranging from To Kill A Mockingbird to The Godfather

Tom Hagen my favorite character. Irish adopted son of the Italian Godfather.
The scene when he told the capo/snitch to off himself was masterful
The scene when mike blew him up about the mistress had me :mjlol:

Duvall is like the ultimate number 2 man. I'd never pick him to lead my movie but he'd definitely be my number 2 guy and would anchor everything beautifully. He just knows the acting shyt inside out, and there's nothing he can't do on screen. He just gets the shyt. Even in something like Network, which is clearly all about Howard Beale, therefore its the Peter Finch show, he still manages to do his damn thing and make you remember "oh yeah, that man came to play ball too"
