It's funny how people are hopping all over hip hop for not dominating Billboard in 2023 while ignoring the fact that Western Pop stars aren't exactly dominating that much either.
Billie Eilish's last album came and went. Doja is sabotaging her career. Lizzo just got cancelled. Ed Sheeran just flopped. Bruno Mars said "f*ck pop" and became a Karaoke Soul singer. Rihanna's Black Panther single came and went. The Weeknd's last 3 projects(Dawn FM, Avatar, and The Idol) flopped. Bieber's singles besides Peaches and that track with Kid Laroi all came and went in the last few years.
Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Harry Styles, and that Olivia chick are the few Western pop stars still dominating music and catching great buzzes.
That's a heavy fall off from the past where tons of them were shining bright and dominating the radio. K Pop is slowly putting them out of business.
At least hip hop's roots weren't ever about Billboard acceptance and appealing to White America. Western Pop is in such a poor state right now that Country Music from both the U.S. and Mexico are competing with it on Billboard, never mind K Pop.
