Customs agents were demanding money from random people to let them bring certain things with them, and the other officials were demanding money to even let people leave the country. It was all out in the open.

Its indicative of what's good in Indian culture right now. Money talks way too loudly, and the whole connection of everyone being on the take from the small guys to the big politicians is part of that.

for sure but I tend to think of the large scale scams as more of an inefficiency problem you know? The criminal enforcement angle is required but when it comes to things like subsidized food being siphoned off we need a technological solution to track and store and see where things are going in the supply chain
