I'm still not sure why they picked Ryan in the first place if they are not going to use him. He would have been better off going with a safe vanilla candidate like Pawlenty. Only thing i can think off is they looked at internal polling and concluded that their best chances of winning is to excite the base at the expense of attracting independents, but then realized Ryan's budget was not palatable to the American public and so they decided to muzzle him.

Or Romney could have realized that he is going to lose anyway and decided to hedge his bet by choosing the right wing wunderkid so he wouldn't get all the blame in the case of a loss.

I just don't get it. All i know is Romney has run one of the worst campaigns ever.
