I'm signed oi a "label" but I am starting to get some real concerns about this.

When I signed I was told I had to pay £2000+ to record an EP before they can help me with promotion. I essentially signed a "artist development" deal. I started saving up and then finally recorded the EP.

Before I signed they told me that gigging is involved and everything. And they said they had a lot of faith in my potential etc. We had a plan and schedule to release a single by the end of June 2017 but everything has been fukked up. They now told me my single won't be release until September! Even though we agreed on how things should go back in March.

Since recording this EP - they haven't called me for any face-to-face meetings, they haven't been involved with helping to spread my name across, I haven't even been mentioned in this twitter, facebook, website etc.

They haven't even bothered to help me find shows - the LEAST they could do no matter how small - instead they are asking me to do it myself. There's literally been ZERO involvement. Is this normal?

If all things are as you described,
you should get a lawyer and argue breach of contract. Most record labels will only push you if you are already buzzing and are a big money draw for them. Most labels don't help with finding shows you need a booking agent for that. Now the label may or may not have ties to booking agents. The labels only real job is to push records, and if they don't feel the record or music can be push you will be isolated. The label will only push what's selling, so you have to get yourself to the point where they want to push you, otherwise it is of no benefit.

Touring costs money, but if they aren't putting money up for the tour then they shouldn't be able to collect from you. Usually what happens is the label will front you the money for a tour in conjunction with your team by taking the money out of the advance they give you.

Labels should have connections and the people to get you opportunities, but any recourses they have will only go to the top artists on the roster. The label only needs 1- or 2 big draws to pay for the rest of the roster that gets little to no push and still come out ahead.

Mind you anything they give you has to be paid back before you see any money from the label. so those contracts are out there. It's important to always have legal representation when signing any deal.
