Hard to believe this exists, but apparently it does.

WHAT IS THE IWA?

Way back in 1985, IWA President Johnny B. came up with the idea of "play by mail" wrestling, where you get to create your own professional wrestler and manage his career. The editor of Wrestling World magazine tried out the game, and liked it so much that he mentioned it in his column! And so the Imaginary Wrestling Association was born. :obama:

More than 21 years later, it's still going strong. We have provided the fun that only pro wrestling can deliver to thousands of players from all over the world. Many of our managers have been playing for over 10 years! They have enjoyed competing for personal glory and prizes, plus some have made friends for life. (And what could be better than finding quality people who share your interests, even if your interests involve seeing your guy bash in the other guy's face?) :krs:

The IWA is not an e-fed or a computer game. You don't even need a computer to play. You tell us your wrestler's name, decide on his personality, and list the maneuvers you want him (or her) to use. Then, you climb in the ring! You are the one who picks his opponents and makes all the decisions about his career. We just act as the referee and commentator, and send you the outcomes of all the matches by regular mail. :dahell:

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHO WINS?
When you create an IWA wrestler, you choose 15 holds for him to use. These holds decide how well he will do during that round of play (or "cycle," which is three weeks long). If you wish, you can change his "strategy" (his 15 holds) every cycle, but each wrestler can only have one strategy at a time.

There are 90 holds for you to pick from, and each one has a "hold value" from 1 to 45 (there are two holds with a value of 1, two holds with a value of 2, etc., up to two holds worth 45 points). These values determine the effectiveness of each hold. The values of the holds change every cycle, so it is important to keep an eye on them, and choose the 15 that are performing the best. You will receive a list of the current hold values when you join.

SIGN ME UP!
The first step in creating your very own IWA wrestler is deciding on a name. Don't just use the name of a real pro wrestler (that's no fun). Remember, this is a character you are going to be playing! Spend a few minutes thinking up his gimmick, or his background, or maybe a catch phrase he is known for. Is he a fan favorite or a heel? What is his entrance music? Take some time to come up with the details so your wrestler is more than just a name on a piece of paper.

Okay, now let's put his name on a piece of paper! Neatly print your name and complete mailing address on a blank sheet of paper (including your street address, apartment number, city, state, and zip code). Print your wrestler's name below that.

:why:
Next, choose 10 holds from the list below, and print the numbers of the holds on the paper. Do not use any hold more than once!

Does your wrestler have a special finishing move, like a "Doom Drop" or "Face Eraser"? If so, let us know what it is! Print your custom finisher below your strategy. If your wrestler wins a match using his final (15th) hold, the results will show that he won by this special maneuver instead.

Congratulations! You've completed the creation of your first ring warrior. Now, who should he fight? For his first round in the IWA he can prove himself by beating some of our "cannon fodder" -- namely, the 10 scrubs shown below. After that, he'll start pounding on wrestlers owned by real-life managers like yourself (we will send you a bulletin containing the outcomes of these first 10 matches plus a list of new opponents to choose from).

Okay, there's just one more step. Put the piece of paper with your wrestler's information on it in an envelope. Enclose $3 to cover his 10 exhibition matches, and mail it to:

IWA Rookie
Box 5275
Willowick, OH 44095

(Don't forget to put postage on the envelope.) :childplease:

In no time at all you'll be facing off against the grapplers created by other pro wrestling fans and winning great prizes, like cash and real-life championship belts!

IWA goes way back. I'm surprised they're still around. They're still using the same damn artwork as well.

My friend and I were members of IWA for awhile. It was kinda fun. You typed up your promo, picked your opponents/moves and waited to see what happened every few weeks in the bulletin.

Jumping John Elway and Lethal Lex Bronson were legends. Kinda fun having all of those stables. I remember AOD and COD crew members were pretty much in every league.
