I want to trim it down to about $800 because I'm not the one shelling out the dough, even though I am gonna pay for the Bluray player. Does everything look good and/or is there anywhere that I could change and save some dough cuz there isn't much difference. I'm not much of a PC gamer either and I'm going to use it mainly for music (listening/producing), movies, Photoshop and similar products, surfing the web and all other general computer activities.

Not in front of my computer to analyze the parts but if you're using that 1 TB drive for mostly storage you may be able cop a 2TB drive off of amazon for 99..it may be a little slower for reading and writing but when dealing with storage space is usually >> speed .....I saw the deal on slick deals... its been active for weeks,. ...

Haven't done any research on your parts but the first thing I noticed was the Rosewell PSU and no CPU cooler. CPU cooler isn't that big of an issue since one comes with your CPU but the PSU is definitely something you shouldn't try to save money on. A cheap quality PSU can end up destroying your whole system.

Thanks for the heads up on that.

If you could, what power supply would you recommend for let's say less than $100 or around that figure? I've never built my own computer til now.

I recommend Seasonic (higher end, but lasts) or Corsair for the PSU. Looks like you gonna need a wattage close to 1000W. Also find out whether you want a single rail, or multiple rail. Then i suggest you buy a PSU that is rated AT LEAST Bronze by 80 PLUS. To make wiring easier, which will cost a bit more but save you some stress, get a modular PSU. PSU is something you DO NOT want to skimp on. If it goes bad, your whole shyt could be destroyed.

why would he need a 1000w psu, thats overkill to me

i agree with the corsair psu rec but at this point he's trying to cut costs (which i think means he would have to go down to a 2500k)

Ya you right. I cant remember but i think a 700W multiple rail PSU should be as good as a 1000W single rail. In any case to be safe and to keep upgradability open, i wouldnt go below 700W. Then again dont take any of our words for it. Google will be able to best help you gauge how much power each component will take up and then you can make a decision on wattage yourself.

Not on a PC right now so I can't really research but the PSU that kash posted looks like a pretty good buy. The brands u recommended for PUSs are Antec, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, and OCZ. And yes a 1000w PSU would just raise the cost for no reason.

I think I'm going to roll with the PSU kash recommended (the 600W or 700W one, most likely 700 to be safe) and get the 2TB drive from Amazon. Doing that, I'm around the same cost, if not a little more. Is there anywhere else that I can trim costs? I'm assuming it would be the i5 3570K to something else which would make it possible to trim at other parts, but I kinda don't want to do that. Sadly, there is not a microcenter anywhere near me.

Like you said, the most obvious would be the processor (could switch to AMD) and/or the video card.... unfortunately I don't know how well the AMD APUs (CPU +GPU in the same chip) perform to make a concrete suggestion...but it could save a few hundred bucks.... from what you say, you're not doing much that an older box can't do....I'd say trim a little and grab a small SSD for your apps and OS to feel the speed

if you can drive to LI or Yonkers and grab the processor

Micro Center - Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz LGA 1155 Processor 407627

it would make it much cheaper. you also get $50 off with a mobo combined purchase. you could pick up a ASrock or a gigabyte mobo for $50 if you do that. the drive would be worth the savings, in my opinion.

the link to the 2tb amazon drive
Amazon.com: Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB Desktop Hard Drive WD20EARX: Electronics

also, you should pick up a SSD (i recommend a 128GB) as soon as you get one it for a decent price (you could get it for 90 probably)

:ohhh::whoo::obama:

I'll definitely take all this into consideration. I think my brother could drive me to one of those Microcenters. I have some time before I'll buy anything so I have time to organize what im getting and where.

Thanks to all of you though :myman: Saved me a bunch of confusion (and cash when I purchase).
