I'm not really a fan of Joel Osteen, but this is pretty standard procedure to pass around collection plates at any church services. I have no problem seeing one of those come down my aisle and paying it no mind. And there might be people there who want to contribute.

It wasn't the collections that was bothering people, it was the flippant way in which she said "god hates freeloaders" implicating displaced refugees as potential future freeloaders. This is a hustle to them. She didn't need to add that "freeloader" stuff. She could've just said "we need to help these people get back on their feet as the bible commands" and KIM.
