Here is one mechanic who gives his customers the royal treatment – as a bona fide African king.

King Céphas Bansah helps govern more than 2 million Ghanaian and Togolese people via Skype from Germany, where he plies his trade full time in his oily overalls, Caters News reported.

The 67-year-old mechanic monarch –- known as King Togbe Ngoryifia Cephas Kosi Bansah — also is recognized as a “superior and spiritual chief of Ewe people” in the West African country of Togo, adjacent to Ghana.
After finishing his studies and becoming a German citizen, he set up his own garage in Ludwigshafen and got his hands nice and dirty until 1987, when he received a life-altering fax.

His grandfather, the King of Hohoe, had died and Bansah’s father and eldest brother were deemed unfit to govern because they were left-handed – something the Ewe people considered to be “unclean.”

And that’s how he ascended to the throne

He still lives in Ludwigshafen with his wife, Gabriele, and two children, Carlo and Katharina – visiting Ghana up to eight times a year and leading his people from afar. :ohhh::lolbron:

German photographer Christina Czybik, who spent the day with the king at his home, said: “He invited me to join his delegation to travel to Ghana this September. I’ve actually booked my flights.”

Ghana has a democratic government, but traditional kings still play important roles in their communities.

Sad how the African monarchies have been degraded. Imagine walking into McDonald's and seeing the queen of England working there.

Jokes aside, keeping himself active like that is probably why he's pushing 70 but looks no where near it. Friend of mine owns a garage and his pops comes through a few days during the week and helps out. Dude does it to keep active and looks about 30 years younger than he is.

Once them oldheads retire and stop moving they fold up quick.

Charity
Throughout the years, Céphas Bansah has been able to realize several supportive ventures. Soon after his coronation, he established a non-profit organization to raise funds for the people of Hohoe. In Ludwigshafen, he was able through his good relations with the farmers to collect containers full of water pumps and pipes. They were shipped to Ghana and served to supply many people's homes with clean drinking water. Further items such as electricity poles and a new church bell for the Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Church were sent in subsequent containers. The town's hospital, which had been understaffed and inadequately equipped, was much improved by donations of medical equipment, wheelchairs, ambulance vehicles, and twenty-two German doctors. He also supervised the construction of a new bridge over the River Dayi, which had previously been dangerously unstable.

In a lot of west-central african cultures the position of the king was usually seen in their literal or metaphorical role as a blacksmith. I guess being a mechanic is the modern incarnation of that
