Overrated and Underrated Batman Stories

Neg if you will, but here are my lists of overrated and underrated tales from Batman's extensive catalogue.

Overrated:
The Dark Knight Returns
(wish Miller, would have worked in some flashbacks or something. A lot of storytelling elements could have enhanced the story)
The Killing Joke.
Court of the Owls.

Underrated:
Zero Year
Batman TAS, Gotham Adventures, TNBA comics. All of them are great.
The Liberty Files,The Unholy Three Elseworld tales with Batman playing the protagonist along with several JSA members
Robin Year One

Just Right:
Batman and Son, RIP. Long Halloween

All of Scott Snyder's Batman since The New 52 is outrageously overrated. He always wrote a better dikk than Bruce but I still can't believe how he went from The Black Mirror to all the pompous overblown shyt he did on the main book.

I meant to say TAS the comic version. Batman adventures. Ty Templeton handled most of the stories.

I have to disagree with you about The Dark Knight Returns. Miller ruined it though with that BS The Dark Knight Strikes Back. I'll never forgive Frank Miller for what he did to dikk Grayson.

Maybe I was too young to appreciate the intricacies of the story the different times I read it, but FM's Year one is overrated. Haven't read it as a 30 year old yet

I disagree on Court of the Owls, it was fresh and one of the best bat stories in recent years. Unless there's something else you're comparing it to that it pales in comparison, I'd love to see where you're coming from...

Underrated, there's this one bat story that involved his father being a batman before him, or donning a bat costume it was a black and white print, one of those little graphic novel books, designed like those old war comics. I can't remember the name of the arc. I remember loving it but I can't recall everything cause I was young, this was in the 90s.

Batman: Hush is underrated. Iunno if it's cause it's contemporary Loeb, even though he has a classic trilogy. Does it have high visibility? Yea... there's a reprint like every 5 years lmao. But it doesn't get enough props when batman arcs are being mentioned

Batman: Heart of Hush by Dini & Dustin Nguyen isn't talked about as much, underrated imo

The Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale stuff are mad underrated

- The Dark Knight Returns is extremely overrated, IMO. I've never liked it and Miller's artwork is atrocious there.
- Anything involving Grant Morrison's Batman run is god awful as well. The worst big name comic book writer ever.
- Hush is overrated. Jeph Loeb is the second worst big name comic book writer ever.

As for underrated, it was well-received at the time but seems a bit forgotten and obscure these days... the Prodigal Son story arc where dikk takes over as Batman for the very first time right after Bruce beat Azrael to end the whole Knightfall storyline. I think it just recently got reissued digitally, or will be.

I haven't read much of New 52 Batman, but yeah, from what I have read it isn't that good...

I keep going back and forth on whether I want to pick the TAS comics up digitally or not. I probably will some day. I had the first four or five issues when I was a kid.

Wanting to check out Cataclysm, No Man's Land, and Contagion as well someday.

It's good, but the hype for it made it seem like GOAT status.

Original Batman/Superman run.

Had some fun stories like what if the two were dictators, the hunt for kryotonite, the Darkseid piff.

Dark Knight Returns was always just 'okay' to me. I think a lot of people hyped it because they've never seen Batman being presented in that way. In regards to his appearance and demeanor.

Maybe, I'll re-read it in the future.

I remember liking the idea of a female Robin and the Joker being 'rehabilitated' though we know what happened there. Never though it was great though I understand it's historical significance.

Knightfall is underrated. I would love to see a TV series just dealing with that.
