I'm 26, so I was in 7/8th grade when I was listening to a lot of this, depending on age, it will be different for everyone, but what were you listening to? Middle school, high school? Those songs that just bring you back with a few seconds or a few notes. I heard Ginuwine 'Same Ol' G' for the first time in probably ten years the other day, I used to LOVE that song when it came out, it was just one of those ones I forgot about over the years. I heard the opening beat, and it was eerie how it reminded me of 7th grade, I had that shyt recorded from the radio on a tape player. 'Sweetheart' , Mariah Carey and JD
.which may have been the real reason I bought 'Life in 1472', was another one, hasn't aged as well, but that shyt was everywhere too in 98.
My favorites at that age,
112 '112'. 'Only You' (Remix) was one of the first tracks that I just loved, straight away, the BIG and Mase verses, the 112 hook, the beat, that was some shyt my boys sister always was playing, and we heard it on the radio, every 5 minutes. Bad Boy was just coming into themselves, 'No Way Out' was barely released, I probably heard that after 'No Way Out' and 'I'll be Missing You', summer of 97. I was about 12 or 13 years old.
Next: 'Too Close' was one of my favorite songs, when i was about 13, though the overt sexuality of the track escaped me, until my friends older sister had to let me know 'Like, you know what this song is saying right'? I had the confused look on my face .'Yeah uhhh, yeah', and she just broke it down. 'I Still Luv You' had the cd single. They were revived with another classic, 'Wifey', and then dropped off, did they do anything dope after that?
112 'Room 112', 'Anywhere' was one of the classic tracks of that era, Lil Z and his blatant Pac impression .we fukked with that anyway. And the 'Love Me' joint with Mase, where he was going at Jay, which was way over my head at the time.
Dru Hill: Can't front, had all their cd's, plus the Sisqo joint. Which was hot at the time, I still fukk with a few tracks, to tell the truth. But, 'How Deep Is Your Love', 'Real Freak', 'In My Bed' 'Were Not Making Love Anymore', the Rush Hour OST had the 'How Deep' track, and LOL later, that 'Wild Wild West' shyt.
Jagged Edge: J.E Heartbreak I still play this album, a lot, one of the best contemporary R&B albums, for me. 'He Can't Love You' (on my simp shyt), 'Lets Get Married', 'Promise', and 'Keys To the Range', at one point, was like my favorite song, copped the 'In Too Deep' sdtk to get that one.
TQ 'They Never Saw Me Coming', 'Bye Baby', and the still classic, 'Westside'.
Ginuwine, previously mentioned, also, 'So Anxious', 'Pony', Donnell Jones, 'U Know What's Up, Tyrese 'Sweet Lady', all the female groups from that time .remember 702? Blaque? LOL. Brandy and Monica, 'The Boy is Mine', (how popular that song was/is unbelievable), 'Angel of Mine', 'Have You Ever', 'Almost Doesn't Count', 'Top of the World'. R Kelly had my favorite two tracks, 'When A Womens Fed Up', and 'Be Careful'. 'Stay The Night' IMX, the molested group, but that track was hot. Reel Tight 'Do U Wanna Ride', I had the cd single. Case 'Missing You, Isley Brothers 'Contagious', I loved that track, summer 20000. Crazy, that shyt was over a decade ago.
agGreat time for R&B, I have been on a real r&b nostalgia binge lately, tracking down all the old shyt. High school was a whole other story, R Kelly, 'TP2.com', and 'Ignition' (Remix) can't even describe how much play that track got, 'In Those Jeans' probably need a whole other post on that.
