last year i about a cheap wireless router that i wanted to use as a wireless repeater, I can't recall exactly but i think i paid less than $25 for it. Its a Linksys E4200v2 that i immediately flashed OpenWrt Project: Welcome to the OpenWrt Project on it. i barely used it for about a week and have since gotten another router that worked better for my purposes but last night i got it and wiped off the dust and reconfigured it. I noticed the versions number of 18.06.1 and checked for an update since I last installed it. sure enough and update 18.06.4 was available. I checked the release notes and saw the update came out July 2019. :ehh:

i went to the original linksys support site to see their updated release notes and the last firmware release for this device was from 12/18/2014:why:. you know theres someone out there who has this same model router and is still running stock firmware thats almost 5 years old:mindblown:.

the fact that a device released in 2011 is still getting software updates 8 years later thanks to that open source project is :banderas:.

Everything

i have own two linksys routers and they both have third party firmwares on them and works well enough so far.:manny:

I consider almost all consumer grade router firmwares to be trash ever since i tried DD-WRT on a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 years ago. commercial functionality at consumer grade prices:wow:

Linksys isn't the best hardware but being able to install ddwrt or open wrt on them over the default software turns them into brand new devices basically.
