Ubuntu has come a long way. Dont understand why software companies aren't supporting this shyt. If they did, MS would have a problem on its hand.

I run Lubuntu 12.04 on my laptop and for the basic stuff (office, videos, internet, music), it's perfect. Fast, minimalistic and light.
I didn't upgrade because I didn't like the new Unity stuff. I was completely lost so I stayed in 12.04.

Unity is the shyt once you get it down. The Windows Switching for the application quicklist and the speed are the best things about 13.04. Even thou I use Fedora more, I can honestly see myself using Ubuntu more in the near future.

yea i think you can switch to GNOME desktop environment if you dont like Unity. Only reason i keep going back to windows is b/c there's some programs that i can only use on there.

I switched to Elementary OS Luna earlier this week.

It takes the best parts of GNOME Shell and Unity (minus the HUD and global menus) but it's far more lightweight.
