These songs take a long time to settle with you. There are songs like Highpower and Money Trees where you can tell it's a great song on first listen, but most of his material takes a lot of listens. We know how short of an attention span most listeners have, and even then most hiphop heads will judge somethin on a couple spins.

This isnt a case of me forcing myself to keep on listening till I like the album, its just kendrick makes unique music. I guess its the combo of his voice, flow, storytelling that doesnt quickly register. I was about to post GKMC was mediocre last night, after 2 or 3 more listens I think it's there with Lupe/Nas for album of the year.

He will sell because he has built a solid fanbase...not off hype of people being wowed of the odd song.

fukk sales Kendrick is dropping quality if people don't buy sucks for them.

Side note Recipe and Swimming Pool did alright. MAAD City or Backseat Freestyle could get him some shine. Jay didn't have a smash hit on his debut. Neither did Nas

TDE is a movement. More people are becoming aware and using their 3rd eye.

Kendrick will move 200k+.

Everyone needs to listen to the interview with Young Guru before J. Cole dropped his album. He discuss the new strategy for success now. Fan base + touring.

It'll baffle me if Kendrick don't do over 200k

Wale & J. Cole exceeded expectations, why can't Kendrick do it

I agree with you to some degree. Reminds me of the apostle Paul's letter to the Hebrews, about how they couldn't progress to maturity and eat solid food. Others who received the gospel progressed beyond basic teachings and behavior. The Hebrews he penned that letter to needed to be retaught from scratch as if they just became believers.

Kendrick's may be a bit much for the not-so-diehard casual Hip Hop listener. Then again I can see a casual Hip Hop listener that fukks with Outcast or Kid Cudi, giving Kendrick's album a listen and becoming addicted to it. Kinda like how Mos Def was initially received with his debut on Ruckus.

Good shyt is usually music that you can appreciate in stages. I don't wanna love an album to death right away, just to never listen to it again after a month. I like that his music stands the test of time, like Section 80 and OD.

Reason is, you have to actually listen to him. Doesn't work for everyone, but for Kendrick, it's what makes him dope.
