When you are gauging your one rep max do you rep out on a moderate weight and calculate your max? Or do you actually go in and attempt your guesstimated max with a spotter?

I tried it with my squats numbers repping out on a moderate weight and seem kind of reluctant in believing the numbers. :whoa:

My estimated maxes are always higher than what I can really do when I test smh. The further away you go from your "max" (or the more reps you use to calculate, I guess), the more inaccurate the estimate is. So taking a max triple is more indicative than taking a max from a 6-rep set.

The best I have seen when doing it alone is guessing a weight where you can hit 2-5 good clean full reps and it will be hard to do more than that. Do them then calculate from there. It won't be exact but it will be very close. The best way is always to actually try to get to a 1RM then you will have it, but you MUST HAVE A SPOTTER(s).
