Saw D&D on monday, fun flick. Hope it continues to do well.

I'm surprised I thought it would have held first place. That 3hr run time is definitely hurting it.
The runtime argument never makes sense because the top five or so highest grossing movies ever are around 3 hours long

What's at the Movies this Weekend? (Apr. 7-9)

It's been a minute for What's at the Movies, but we got The Super Mario Bros. Movie already out doing big numbers, so I figured, why not?

Mario and Luigi, the greaseball plumber bros, have been in theaters since yesterday, in advance of Easter. The Super Mario Bros. Movie already made $31.7M on Wednesday. It's looking at another $22M today. So far it's grossed $66.4M worldwide. It's looking at a $90M+ Easter weekend. My brother took his kids to see it yesterday and my little nephew loved it. From the mouths of babes. I gotta say, Charlie Day seems like a perfect casting for Luigi. :ehh:

In case you ain't seen the trailer yet 👇🏾

This weekend also sees the debut of AIR. Like, Mario, it's also been out since yesterday, when it made $3.2M. It's looking to make another $13M this weekend. It has an A CinemaScore so word of mouth should be good. But I'm sure Mike wanted that A+. :mjcry:

John Wick: Chapter 4 has now passed $130M domestically.

S C R E A IVI
currently sits at $99.9M. It'll become the third film in the franchise to gross $100M, joining Scream ($103M) and Scream 2 ($101.3M).

The year 3030
saw D&D's #3 and Air is 4th

Kinda surprised. Cool that D&D's word of mouth has been positive to keep it up there...but a little disappointed Air isn't at least top 3

Mama Mia! Mushroom Murking Mario Bros. Movie Makes Many Millions: Weekend Box Office Results (Apr. 7-9)

Apologies for getting this out late. As you all, no doubt no by now The Super Mario Bros. Movie came through and crushed the mushrooms and the goombas to the tune of $146.3 million. That's the third biggest Easter weekend of all time, behind Furious 7's $147.1 million and Batman v. Superman's $166 million. It's also the fourth highest opening for a Universal movie behind Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Furious 7. It knocked off Jurassic World Dominion's $145 million. Oh yeah, it eclipsed Sonic the Hedgehog's 2's $72 million opening to become the highest grossing weekend for a movie based on a videogame.

As it stands right now, it's grossed $375.5 million worldwide. It has an A CinemaScore so word of mouth should be excellent. We also have April vacation coming up so the kids will be out in full force to see this s*** and add to the numbers.

In a surprise twist, John Wick 4 held down the second spot with $14.46 million. It was down 49% in its third weekend which bests John Wick 3's -54.9% in its third weekend. Its $146.9 million running total eclipses John Wick 3's $125.7 million after 3 weeks. The f****** Baba Yaga.

shooting-john-wick.gif

Debuting in third place was AIR, with $14.45 million. Mike, who I'm let to believe is not actually in the movie just lost out to John Wick. :mjpls:The Mike-less movie did make more than 80 for Brady's $12.7 million opening, but Tommy debuted in second place. :yeshrug: After the 5 days, his Air-less movie made $20.2 million. Like Mario it also got an A cinemaScore which means again word of mouth should help stretch its legs. And it's going to need it cuz this m*********** has a 90 million budget. And they couldn't even get a Mike cameo goddamn. :mjlol:

Dungeons & Dragons tumbled down to fourth place after a first place debut last weekend. It took home $13.8 million for a healthy 62.7% decline. That decline almost matches the total gross of $61.6 million. That franchise might be heavily f****** delayed. That's where to Karl from Succession. :skip:

Yo, these m************ had their own Avengers 1 heroes assemble shot? :mjtf:

S C R E A IVI rounded out the top five with $3.4 million. Ghostface has slashed his way to $103.9 million. It's now the highest grossing film in the screen franchise outdoing the original's $103 million. It's all about out doing the original in a Scream movie, or, I guess a Stab movie.

Notables

The Owen Wilson, Bob Ross, Paint movie debuted with 570k.

Ant-Man 3 made $291k. It's now grossed $212.7 million, still trailing Ant-Man 2's $216.6 million. The global totals aren't close: Ant-Man 3 is at $474 million, 23.9% off of Ant-Man 2's $622.6 million. :whew:

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is so review-proof. The rest of the box office participants just gotta chalk that one to the game and keep it moving, lol. It really doesn’t matter that the critics seem so majorly split against it when the kids are collectively losing their minds and theaters are clapping at the end of the flick.

The movie ain’t Pixar/DreamWorks nor does it try to be, but it does do a better job at staying faithful to the source material than most other video-game adaptations that I’ve seen lately. Miyamoto had to have been holding Illumination at gunpoint during production. :mjlol:

I do dread this sub turning into Arcadium 2.0 when the inevitable Mario-Sonic heavyweight bout takes place down the road…as if the Marvel/DC stan wars today aren’t enough. :dead:

apparently the movie is exactly what Miyamoto wanted. He wanted as little story as possible so illumination had to do it to get the movie made. looks like it worked :lolbron:
