The most insufferable of all Neoliberals interviews another policy wonk

Cued up to 41:56

The two greatest civil rights leaders of the 20th century, A Phillip Randolph was a union leader of the railroad porters union and MLK Jr. was a Baptist minister - part of a mass membership organization. And then beginning in the 60's and 70s, I won't name names, the way you become a spokesperson for women, LGBTQ, or African Americans or Hispanics is not having this mass organization behind you of members, or winning elections. It's your success in getting grants for your nonprofit or university program.

Above the fray.
He talks about Bush after making the quoted comments.

Didn't George W. Bush try to do a variation of this?
There was a propposal for the govt. to give money DIRECTLY to clergymen via their churches or affilated organizations

Faith Based Initiatives.

I remember there being a baklash against it, because there are strings attached to any money that somebody gives you.

Yeah, that part wasn't as strong imo.

Whole conversation raises my hackles, but most Neo Libs and Policy Wonks that talk about Black people/Black issues do as well.

Ezra and Noah Smith, among others, are really leaning heavy into this idea that

1) Kamala did better than Obama and Biden among college educated whites and ppl making 100K
2) That Trump really won over Black people (and to a much lesser extent Latinos and Asians/Indians/Arabs/Muslims)

Which is leading a lot of these pundits to the idea that "race doesn't really matter anymore".

And we need to abandon "wokeness" and stick to "economic" issues.

It's the same sort of handwringing that I've seen in Left circles that pit race against class - and since time immemorial Class usually wins The Left, but rarely motivates The Mass.

But my point in posting this is that Black Leaders of today - whoever folks care to name - aren't the heads of massive (and centralized) organizations. Black Institutions don't exist, just as many other institutions don't exist either.

Which just makes me look into the demagoguery of Trump even more.
