According to a report by Rent, Providence experienced the highest year-over-year change in rent prices in the U.S., with a 16.18% increase from March 2023 to March 2024. The metro’s median rent price reached $2,618, making Providence the ninth most expensive metro in the study. This sharp increase in rents is part of a broader trend that has seen rental prices in Providence climb from $1,845.50 in February 2019 to $2,743 in February 2024.

The RealPage investigation shines a light on how algorithmic price-fixing can distort rental markets, leading to higher costs for renters.
