and, I even hit up the HipHopSite store when it was still around while visiting Vegas. Ha, I even dropped off one of my mixtapes. haha

Being a Jersey dude I was never trying to go all the way to Brooklyn to hit up Beat Street and schlep vinyl all the way back home. It was a pain, already, trying to get to the city.

What was/is your spot?

There weren't A LOT of record shops that sold a lot of the stuff I wanted, so I'd have to go to Sandbox Automatic and or HipHopSite to get all the Vinyl I wanted. From like '98-'01 I literally purchased records every two weeks because the Indy labels were droppin 12"s like crazy (Rawkus, Stones Throw, Landspeed, Def Jux, etc).

When I would go to NY I'd stop at Fat Beats (in Manhatten...RIP) and Beat Street in Brooklyn (RIP). The LA Fat Beats was dope too and actually met Babu there (I believe he's co owner). Cool dude. But both Fat Beats shops I would visit were f*ckin hot (literally).

I chopped it up a couple times with Percee P in front of Fat Beats. He was always selling his mixtape. This was before the Jurassic Five feature and the Madlib stuff.

I use to fukk with Beatstreet out on Fulton street...but i stop fukking with Beatstreet when they came out with those Breakbeat compilation records.....

it basically took the fun out of digging............ :noah:

then i linked up with Hott Waxx out in Far Rockaway....i liked them because they did Mail Order as well and they carried good mixtapes from Dj Clue to Grandmaster Vic and Ron G.

I pretty much lived in Rock & Soul back in the day. I'd spend hours in there diggin'. They had a lot of dope shyt, and always had white labels in stock that other spots didn't even bother to carry.

YES! I always got those late-night white/black labels Red Alert and Flex would play after midnight on Saturdays. You always had to check your backpack when you walked in the back. ha

LOL!!! Exactly! It was like airport security in there.

Also Sound Revolution - Saint Louis. Couldn't find any pictures but that was my main spot. Damn I miss those days. A lot more fun than combing sharebeast for tracks...

They used to inflate the prices for albums though. I copped mad albums from there, because they used to get them a few days before they dropped in stores. But they would always ask for like $5 more than retail. LOL! I had to talk dudes down in there a lot of times. I remember coppin' Wyclef's first album and Rage's joint from there summer '97. Don't ask, lol..
