Wreck-It Ralph 2 will ‘break the internet,’ say Disney execs
Wreck-It Ralph 2 officially has a new title, and like Kim Kardashian before him, Disney’s angry video game character will break the internet in 2018.
Disney used its time at CinemaCon on Tuesday to outline some of the details surrounding Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, including where it will take place. Unlike the first movie, which was set in a connected universe shared by different video game characters belonging to a variety of arcade games, the sequel will bring Ralph into the modern age.
One of Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2’s directors, Rich Moore, said that although he loved the setting of the original film, they wanted to take it in a different direction for the sequel.
“To take these characters we love and have them enter the enormous world of the internet has given us so much to explore,” Moore said in a news release.
Moore’s comments echo what he and co-director Phil Johnston said during a Facebook Live stream last June. Johnston and Moore said they were excited about bringing Ralph to a larger setting, rather than just leaving him trapped in an arcade game.
Disney also confirmed that the original cast, including Sarah Silverman, John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch and Jack McBrayer, will be returning for the sequel.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be released on March 9, 2018.
