North Carolina cheated and prospered, now it's time for reckoning - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com News, Scores, Stats, Schedule and BCS Rankings

Maybe the ugliest academic scandal in NCAA history.

This one is worse than what happened in 2007 at Florida State. I mean, it's not even close. Florida State had some numbers that looked bad -- 61 athletes from 10 different teams -- but this UNC scandal dwarfs it.

FSU had 61 tainted players, almost all from the same class.

North Carolina has at least 54 tainted classes.

How many athletes were given free grades from the Department of African and Afro-American Studies? We don't know. UNC never wanted to find out, but the school has no choice now. The school mustered a halfhearted search for the truth earlier this year when it found those 54 tainted classes, but its search went back only to 2007. Despite efforts from the Raleigh News & Observer that suggested otherwise, the school held firm that the academic fraud started in 2007.

On the real, your football program is always more likely to bring you down because they cant just go pro after one year like basektball. So you have to keep them dudes elgibile till their junior years, thats when that major coursework starts

Cal is a genius for running a one and done program, as long as they leave early you only have to keep them afloat for one semester of freshman classes and then their outta here. :jawalrus:

I never thought of that, but it's an excellent point. Basketball coaches aren't under near as much pressure as football coaches to keep kids eligible.

It will be interesting to see what the NCAA does about Carolina. I have a feeling that they found out about this during their investigation last year but wanted to keep it under wraps because it exposes what a sham the term "student athlete" really is.

they found out about it during the Marvin Austin fiasco in 2010

about the b-ball/football thing, no way in fukk can anyone tell me football is dirtier than basketball...they just got so many in betweens that its damn near impossible to get caught unless someones snitching...football will get that way soon w/ all these 7 on 7 camps...

Lets not act like this isn't going on at all the schools though. Every school has easy classes for athletes. Eric Bledsoe and D Rose had to cheat just to get into school, you trying to tell me they took and passed real college courses? :shaq2: And thats just 2 examples in basketball, dont even get me started on football.

The worst part about this though, none of this has helped our football team. If we were gonna "cheat", we should have benefited from it somehow.

lol at these tarheels should have had to give back 2 titles

I guess Ole Roy had no clue what was going on

Duke and UNC break the rules and get the benefit of refs/seeding/ locations in the ncaa tourney

At UK We are public enemy #1... The Gawd has everyone in the media, but Andy Katz/Mike DeCourcy diggin through the garbage peepin in the windows trying to stop him from changing the lives of 60-70 black families for generations...Oh Well it feels that much sweeter when we win that we do it against all odds

that pos faggit Mark Emmert better step down as NCAA president or he better get use to handing the title over to Cal every April
