The Boys: Why Controversial Herogasm Will Change Season 3 Completely
The Boys has confirmed season 3 will contain Herogasm, an event that is sure to change the way the superheroes in the series are perceived.

Season 3 of The Boys' will include the controversial yearly superhero orgy event, Herogasm and it could represent a new low benchmark for the Amazon show. Even more crucially, the sheer depravity of the orgy may mark the moment when the audience is supposed to completely empathizing with the hero community.

Herogasm, explained fundamentally, is a secret sex party that takes place in The Boys once every year, with the various superheroes' disappearances being explained to the public through the lie that they are off fighting some cosmic entity to save the world. It contains some of the most decidedly sordid scenes in the entire of The Boys history as a result of this, given this part of the story revolves around heroes engaging in various acts of depravity in order to "let their hair down" in the brief time they have completely out of the public eye.

The Boys: How The Seven Look In The Comics Vs. The Show

Amazon's version of The Boys certainly has enough outlandish and often somewhat gross content to match that of the initial comic, meeting almost every moment of gory violence or scandalous sex scenes on the written page with one of its own. That said, Herogasm is on another even more taboo level again to anything seen so far, with almost every unsavory and unpleasant thing from bestiality to cannibalism being shown at some point in the relatively short comic. As such, it stands to reason that it will have a genuine impact when it shows up on the screen, but crucially, it won't merely be there as an attempt to make viewers feel uncomfortable or to use gross-out humor. In fact, Herogasm could mark the moment on The Boys that the tide of perception really turns on superheroes.

Homelander's Final The Boys Season 2 Scene Was Cut From Season 1
Though Amazon has softened some of the elements on The Boys from the comics, it's still very likely that the season 3 depiction of Herogasm will still be downright disturbing at points. In fact, Amazon's version of The Boys has had scenes even worse than the comics, and whatever happens in Herogasm may mark an attempt to sever any remaining empathy or sympathy that had been established for the various members of the superhero community. Though there's nothing wrong with heroes simply having sex, there is something decidedly unpalatable about them ditching their responsibilities by lying to the general public about a fake danger, and if the adaptation follows the comic closely, it will paint even the "better" members of the hero community as caring very little for the people they pretend to want to protect. Given the publicity nightmare for supes caused in season 2, that would be a big deal and could be a point of no return.

As we draw ever closer and closer to The Boys' fateful final confrontations with the Seven and the greater hero community - and the potential for Billy Butcher to kill Homelander - it's only natural that the audience is given more reason to back The Butcher and his team. Not only that but Herogasm and season 3 can offer further reason for viewers (and the in-universe general public) to want to see an end to some specific heroes by showing them doing every sordid and immoral act left on the proverbial tick list. The Boys already has a shown broad coverage of some legitimately awful deeds done by supposed heroes, of course - but this might be the most convenient, and most dramatic way to close off the idea of redemption for anyone who still somehow remained on the fence.
