Great article about Chris Spielman and what he does for the organization:

I'm starting to think differently about the draft. FA has filled the major holes we had a few weeks ago: cornerback, box safety, guard, RB, etc. Not to say we won't draft any of those positions, we will. But it's looking like whoever we draft there will not be starting. I'd have no issue drafting a CB at 18 if the value was right, while knowing he's probably not gonna start. We could draft a good LB later in the draft who probably won't start. We could draft a safety who won't start. This is a "problem" good teams have. This is why Jordan Davis didn't start in Philly last year, and why Nakobe Dean didn't start either. Both will be starting this year due to FAs who left Philly. Next man up. You draft for the future and to replace guys you can't pay.

Looking at the secondary for instance, Sutton has a 3 year deal. Mosley and Gardner-Johnson signed 1 year deals, meaning they could be gone next season. Who replaces them? That's why I'd expect we draft a CB and safety.

Gonzalez i really like. I don't get how Joey Porter has a first rd grade.

He wouldn't have it if not for his dad. He's a 3rd rd talent

If Holmes/Campbell feel good about Carter I'll trust their process and be fine with it too. He's perfect for the team on the field, and could anchor a top 10 defense for us. On the flip side this is also the type of pick that gets GMs fired. If he stacks up some DUIs and speeding charges in Detroit a lot of people will be saying I told you so.

Can't cosign a TE in the first round, there's too much depth in the draft at that position. There are guys in the 2nd-6th round who would fit what we do too. One guy I'm intrigued by is this 6'8 TE who will likely be a 5th or 6th rounder...

He could be unstoppable in our offense, with Jameson taking safeties down field and St Brown keeping LBs busy.

In terms of the #18 pick I'd go WR or CB, depending on who is there. If Quentin Johnson is there (and we lose DJ Chark) why not take him? Or the guy from USC. And CB wise if someone falls like Joey Porter or Devon Witherspoon it would make sense despite FA. Only Sutton is on a deal that has more than 1 year on it. Drafting a CB to develop in case we lose some guys in the coming years makes sense.

I was reading some shyt on a scouting/draft discord this morning and ppl were saying he’s going to get over-drafted and really isn’t it. Idk shyt about him but the way they was talking got me shook of him (and my boy Kincaid) .If he’s a development TE he kinda is redundant with James Mitchell.

But based on the conversation of the lions want a TE they are going to have to get one early . apparently there is a big drop after the top 4-5

Those Holmes interviews are insightful and have some noteworthy nuggets. One that stuck out was that they think Isaiah Buggs will be better this year because he played too many snaps last year due to injuries/lack of depth, and that won't be the case this year. Which tells me we're drafting a nose tackle somewhere in the draft. He was often playing 40-50 snaps last season. If you lower that to 30, I think you get more out of him. Likewise with Alim at the other DT spot, if we draft Jalen Carter they're gonna be able to rotate a lot and constantly be fresh.

Holmes mentioned Vaitai's medicals looked good enough for the team to bring him back. That's good to hear. I'd imagine we still draft a guard late too.

Lots of questions about talent VS off the field stuff, and one of the journalists even directly mentioned Jalen Carter. Based on the answer I get the impression that Carter is an option assuming the research on him isn't terrible. He's the best player in the draft...if he's there at 6 you probably have to take him. Holmes also reiterated he's a believe in best player available...

I think Campell said too much and caught himself :russ:

Carter's teammates have nothing but good things to say about him publicly, and I'd assume the same privately. Plus Campbell said "pretty good" so I assume it was just about him being a good teammate. As long as Carter doesn't fukk up the interviews I think we take him.

I really do not want Carter. Everything about him screams bust to me but if Holmes takes him, I'll trust his opinion. :yeshrug:
