Why until 2020? That's the next census and when districts can be redrawn.
In 2010 the game changed when the Tea Baggers swept in state legislatures and redrew the Congressional districts. They effectively gerrymandered the districts to the point that even if more votes were cast for Democrats, Republicans could still end up winning more Congressional seats. Perfect example of this is North Carolina in 2012. Democrats got more votes but lost 3 seats.
A lot of Republicans feel no need to compromise because they are safe back home. They can take a beating on the national level but they know they won't suffer any consequences. All politics are local and Republicans control 24 state governments. Unless there's a seismic political event Republicans will probably control the House until then.
