President Obama will announce in the State of the Union address Tuesday that he will use his executive power to increase the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour for workers on new government contracts, fulfilling a top demand by liberal lawmakers and groups, according to a White House document.

This is a good thing...no one can live off of seven dollars and some change an hour...this will also have an effect on the jobs that are close to minimum wage as well...given the cost of inflation I dont see how anyone can consider this a bad move

One of the rare occasions where I get to show respect for this Administration on policy. $10.10 is a great compromise and start, but the important thing is that it is tied to COLA, inflation and so on. I also wished he retroactively did it as opposed to only new hires but I'll take it for now.

But yeah, this is good. We have to build on it.

Yeah i wish the Governor of NY(where I live) sped up the time table for that "9 dollar plus" minimum wage....I'm getting paid $8.25 now as a cashier compared to 7.50 the previous month but everything just feels the same....I understand what you say about a "good start" but I'm sure like me you wish these leaders would try to have Progressive minimum wage increases like $16 to $18 but we know its hard to find risk takers in the political field in this climate....

I'm trying to think of what other executive orders he will be using this year if he is finished bluffing with that "Ill have a pen and ill use it" annual threat....

I'd support a MW of 9-10 dollars an hr but I think it's just a bandaid to a much bigger problem
