The difference between Drill and Gangsta Rap is:
The Drill rappers are active gang members. In hot war vs their opps. These niqqas would be killed prolly even FASTER if they weren't semi famous rappers.
Foolio prolly lived years longer than he would have without the fame.
Old School Gangsta rappers were people like Nas and Cube who were street adjacent. Even Eazy E and MC Eiht and Quik and Dub C.. they didn't really bang on their records. They didn't shout out their set and double down on dissing their opps.
The movies Boyz in the Hood and Menace II Society didn't call out any sets. They barely even repped one color or the other, let alone particular sets.

Whole movie was 60s vs Crenshaw Mafia, sympathetic to the 60s side because that was John Singleton’s hood.
He banged on them with the camera, now the 60s is known worldwide and Crenshaw Mafia is swallowed back up in the families.
