To settle a class-action lawsuit with former cheerleaders, the Jets agreed Friday to pay $324,000 to women claiming they were cheated out of wages, ordered to practice and forced to pay for work-related expenses, NorthJersey.com reported.
The suit, filed in August 2014 in Bergen County, N.J., covered 52 current and former members of the Jets’ cheerleading team — known as The Flight Crew — during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
According to a lawyer for one of the cheerleaders, the women were paid $150 for each game, but were not compensated for travel, practice time or expenses related to the job, such as hairspray and makeup.
The women included in the suit will receive between $2,559 and $5,913 each depending on whether they were part of the cheerleading team for one or both of the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Cheerleaders for the Raiders, Bengals and Bills have also filed suits against their respective teams claiming they are owed compensation for unpaid work.
