A female teacher has been banned from the classroom after asking a boy for sex and asking others to stand up in front of pupils and reveal whether they were virgins.
Drama teacher Lindsay Black, 28, messaged the 17-year-old, known only as Pupil A, via text, Facebook and email after he was cast in the lead of the school play We Will Rock You.
A disciplinary panel in Cardiff heard Ms Black, a trained actress who was providing maternity cover, conducted ‘sexually explicit’ talks with her sixth form class.
In one incident she asked pupils who had never had sex to stand up in class, and in another played an ‘I have never’ game where she would ask pupils if they had performed certain sex acts, which she then proceeded to ask them to mime.
When the head of drama at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic School in Newport confronted Ms Black over the lessons, she insisted it was all part of getting the pupils into ‘character’.
The messages to Pupil A emerged after he showed them to classmates while rehearsing. The panel heard he had struggled at school as a result of the advances and had to re-sit his AS exams.
Colleague Abigail Watts told the Professional Conduct Committee of the General Teaching Council of Wales that Ms Black, who was interviewed by police in 2011 but told no further action would be taken, messaged Pupil A about a dream of them having sex.
Fellow teacher Sandra Davies said Ms Black would even discuss her own sexual fantasies in class, including how she wanted to cheat on her fiancé before getting married by having sex on a table in the drama class.
The panel ruled Ms Black’s actions amounted to unacceptable professional conduct and banned her from teaching.
‘The conduct in question seriously affected pupils and was not an isolated lapse,’ said committee chairman Peter Williams.
‘Black’s actions are fundamentally incompatible with being a registered teacher.’
Ms Black, who has a month to appeal, must wait five years before being allowed to apply to teach again.
