In one of the more bizarre moves in Olympic history, the North Korean womens soccer team took the field 40 minutes late Wednesday night in Glasgow due to what officials are calling an issue behind the scenes.
An official said that the North Koreans objected to the placement of the South Korean flag directly in front of the tunnel entrance to the field and an apparent mistake that placed the South Korean flag on the scoreboard before the game.
The match between North Korea and Colombia was supposed to start at 7:45 p.m. local time. A security worker said officials at Hampden Park said the North Koreans grew angry because the South Korean flag flashed on the stadiums scoreboard. As game time approached, Colombia lined up in the tunnel and began to do its pre-game chants. But the North Koreans never came out of their locker room.
They finally took the field at 8:25 p.m., 40 minutes after the game was scheduled to start.
