The Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire returned to his championship ways as he captured the WBA Super World Featherweight title when he defeated Simpiwe Vetyeka this past May in Macau, China via technical decision. This marked Donaire’s fifth title in a fifth weight division and he now hopes to continue to try to clean out the Featherweight division.
One possible fight for Donaire is against former two time Olympics gold medalist and now WBO Featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko. The Ukraine amateur standout won his title in only his third professional bout and now a showdown with Donaire seems like a likely scenario.
BoxingScene spoke to Donaire and asked him for his thoughts about Lomachenko and a possible fight with him.
“He’s a good fighter. He’s a smart fighter. I mean he knows how to win because he’s one of the best amateurs; if not the best amateur. But that’ll be a great fight [between me and him]. I would love to put our belts together” said Donaire.
This would mark the second time Donaire would face a former Olympics gold medalist if he fought Lomachenko with Guillermo Rigondeaux being the first. Lomachenko would indeed be a tall task but Donaire is willing and ready. This year in boxing has become the year of the tune ups as some fighters are taking lesser challenges but Donaire informs he’s ready to step in with the Ukranine champion immediately.
“When I came up to 126 I didn’t have a tune up. When I came up to 122 I didn’t have a tune up. When I went up in weight to 118 I didn’t have a tune up. If there’s a challenge there I’ll go for it. I’m always willing to fight anybody. We want to get another title match. Either defend the title or fight another champion. I’m always the type of fighter that will challenge other champions out there. If I’m in that division, I will challenge you” Donaire would tell BoxingScene.
Donaire has won two fights and captured a new world title since his loss to Rigondeaux last year. He’s ready to continue taking on challenges to prove he’s the best and if Lomachenko is next, he’ll more than welcome it

Donaire taking on another Olympic great?
I wonder if Loma will take this fight, since he says he wants to fight someone like Mares next
My body is ready for Loma vs Rigondeaux, Donaire, or Mares
