Death Wish, 1976 was the original of these kind of urban menace thriller, endangered family plus/minus sexualized violence, leads to mostly racialized violence against black, Mexican, Latin, Russian, Albanian, whatever. They have a pervasive presence in American culture. I won't watch this, but I haven't watched a movie like this since Taken, and I did see Straw Dogs remake in 2011. Revenge fantasy. Also includes movies like The Patriot (2000) with Mel Gibson.

Straw Dogs was probably the best of these kinds of movies, displaying a class divide rather than a racial one, in rural Britain.
Marked for death with Steven Segal as well

This is true, in a sense, but since Steven Seagal was already a police officer, he doesn't have the shift from docile and impotent suburban male into vengeful and virulent killer, who is also more sexually appealing, (because he has fulfilled the male role of family protection) which is a male fantasy, that all of they everyday people who work office jobs would transform themselves into the action hero man that lives inside them, which of course, is utter nonsense, but a key to the genre. Of course, Taken more closely follows the path of those movies, in the additional genre cliche that the once violent man is lured back into violence to avenge his family. The suburban male transformed is a slightly different take on this genre.

I can suspend my belief for a lot of things in film

But I WILL NOT do it to pretend like odenkirk is a ladies man bad ass :dead:
The trailers look ridiculous because I cannot separate him from Saul for this type of movie. Dude looks like he could play the fat Peter Parker in the live action Spiderverse. Not Solid Snake.

This shyt hasn't got a good review yet but to be honest it's not the kind of film I expect to do well critically so I'll check it out

Nobody (2021)

Nah, it's doing well with reviewers. 82% critics, 94% audience. Not a lot of A+ scores but plenty of people calling it a solid 3 or 4 out of 5.

I ain't seen it, I thing the whole genre is overplayed. But it's Bob Odenkirk and he takes his work seriously.
When I looked it was very early on had about 5-6 reviews (why I never really trust reviews).

Is it worth the watch?
Its a dope flick. Lots of brutal action but like I said in another thread it does teeter on the silly side as it goes on but overall its a very fun watch. Def recommend.
