I just fired up a J, and said, let me throw this back in there... See what they updated.. While I'm waiting for the update, I go check the blog.. nikka I'm literally sitting here like
The Path Finder update introduces planetary vehicles, base sharing, PS4 Pro support, ship/weapon specialisation, permadeath mode, and much more. It shows the path for the future.
Then they drop a free 30 hour story in the next update: Update 1.3, Atlas Rises, brings a brand new and overhauled central storyline, portals, a new procedural mission system, trade improvements, system economies, joint exploration and more.
Two years later and they still dropping FREE heat: Update 1.5, NEXT, introduces a full multiplayer experience, near-unlimited base building, command of freighter armadas, a graphical overhaul and more.
Then they go ahead and add an underwater element: Explore the terrors of the deep in The Abyss update. Introducing aquatic environments with over 5 times more variety, varied creature behaviours, improved underwater visuals and much more.
It's three years later... The game never sold close to what they thought it would... There's NO microtransactions or paid DLC.... GTA made how much money on online? How much in sales? Did the single player get one single upgrade? anything free at all added? anything at all added period? nope.. from what I played on day one, to this.... Yea they delivered exactly what I imagined this to be

But not what they expected. The initial run and the failures at launch dropped those numbers way down. Now that it’s on pc and Xbox, of course the numbers went upIt has sold millions of copies

My main point was that they aren’t getting any extra income. No dlc or micros to fund all these additions. On the flip side major companies hit you with all the dlc and micros and give up on a game after 8 months
I said AT LAUNCH... meaning at the point disaster hit, and the world was saying this game was shyt, these dudes weren't sitting on a stack of paper, rich to the point that they could bank of free updates forever. They're an indie company that got lots of money because they sold millions of copies. They are not a giant, public corporation that is going to try to get the maximum amount of money they can with DLC no matter how many copies they sell.
How do you know how many copies they expected to sell?
someone just found it for $11.. what's to lose...So is this game worth it now?

not true when it comes to sales. they didnt expect it to blow up like it did to begin with. that was the first problem. it was like going you having a brand new eatery you just opened up with your wife. a little small joint. and after you're on one of those food shows, everyone wants to try out your new spot. sure its great that you are about sell out of every single thing you have. but you dont have the staff or the know how to keep up with that kind of buzz. thats exactly what happened to Hello games. that team was SUPPPPER small when they started. They sold a lot more copies than they initially ever imagined. remember folks, this is an indie game. like real indie. sure the guy working on it had AAA companies on his resume and this wasnt his first time making a game. but to attempt to design a new way of doing a game like this with all that procedural generation. was crazy. the fact they had to make their own game engine was next level for a team that small. But not what they expected. The initial run and the failures at launch dropped those numbers way down. Now that it’s on pc and Xbox, of course the numbers went up

But No Man’s Sky isn’t presenting each player with a unique galaxy every time they fire it up. It’s using procedural generation to create the same sprawling galaxy with the same contents for every player to encounter, even though it’s so large that someone could play for the rest of their lives without stumbling upon a planet that another player has already explored. “In No Man’s Sky, everyone’s universe is built from the same seed,” says Cook. Specific numbers, or “seed values” are run through a series of algorithms – what Hello Games’ art director, Grant Duncan, calls “boxes of math” – to create a unique result. The blueprints of the entire universe have already been created using this technique, but the game only builds out a player’s immediate surroundings so as not to make your CPU melt down. Whenever you arrive on a planet, the game runs the preset seed values for that planet through the algorithm, thus summoning up that planet’s singular terrain, weather, flora, and fauna.
the problem with the initial gripes, not talking about games freezing or glitch issues. they were a very small team trying to handle a workload that was well above their weight. cant fault them for that.Hello Games earned back their respect imo
A lot of people will still never forgive them for what happened, but a lot will after seeing them fulfill most of the promises with regular free updates
I think what dude is saying is that if Hello, a small team, can make right on their promise, why can't Rockstar just make the SP content they said they would? GTAV has made so much damn money, why not at this point
I see what you're saying. I dunno if Sean Murray lied so much as embellished where the game was truly at. There was no multiplayer, at all, at launch and he lied about that. Maybe Sony was twisting his arm to not reveal too much, maybe the critics and insiders were just spellbound, but ones things for sure: that shyt was extremely poorly handledthe problem with the initial gripes, not talking about games freezing or glitch issues. they were a very small team trying to handle a workload that was well above their weight. cant fault them for that.
but i'm talking about all the people who said sean murray lied. no he didnt. if you take into consideration most games that show off stuff years in advance are a 3rd if that of what they said they were going to be. and this is with AAA franchise series games with 200+ employees on the payroll and DLC money to blow.
I watched all of his interviews and i knew what he was saying some of the time was what he WANTED to pull off. I also knew, aint no way he can do all of that if his team has less than 20 people on it(it did). So i could easily separate the dreams from the reality. I got the game i expected to get at launch. no real complaints from me. but what it has become now, is amazing considering where they started and how small that team was/is and thinking about how 99.9% of all companies would've jumped ship after the crazy backlash.
