Just saw this movie- Minor spoilers.
"Looks dumb". "Can't take seriously." All that applies to this movie. Basically, Owen is sent by his job to this country. He's an engineer. He meets Pierce "Action" Brosnan on his way there. Pierce has no chill and is pretty funny. He's not the main character but when he gets time. He's Pierce. (If you saw his last movie you know what to expect.)
First 25 minute is pretty light. Just adjusting to the new culture. Alot forced and corny jokes, involving Owen and his fam. Then something happens and their lives change in a matter of an instant. They're in the middle of the war and they're the prey.
Now, the Asian villians are ISIS light. They have no conscious and will kill without hesistation. Killings are done in variety of ways.
It's clearly a satirical film. I'm not going to go out and say it's a parody film like "The Guest". But as you saw in the trailer, there are some ridiculous, unrealistic things that happened. Case in the point was the throwing his kids off the roof. That's definitely one of the funniest parts of the film. There are some other killing parts that are funny as well. At the same time, it does try to take itself seriously as a film, with a "cat and mouse" chase scenarios.
The kids are annoying for the most part. Doing stupid stuff to slow them down. Talking when they don't need to etc. If it was real life though, by the end of the film, they would be in the psych ward.
The movie def. has an agenda, promoting propaganda. I won't go into why this city is going crazy. But let's just say that Conservatives, capitalist, would be mad as their reason why.
Overall, plenty of plot holes. If you're going into this as a serious action film. Then don't waste your time. But if you like brainless, predictable, B movie action and humor, then this might be for you. It has some "lol" moments. The movie is pretty much what you expect if you see the trailer. But at the same time, tries to take seriously as a film at time. As a pure film, it's C-. For the genre, a B. Not saying it's like the Purge but you got plenty of murders, if that's what you're looking for. And they're out cold with it at times. Some of the chase scenes though, seem to go on and on. But overall this movie is straight. Not a must at the theatre but if nothing else is better out. And you like this genre, go see it.
