The season started between these two franchises in Brazil. And for one of them, most likely the Packers, it will end in Philadelphia.
The Packers are again, the youngest team in football and in these playoffs. They won 11 games but only had 1 division win as Minnesota and Detroit dominated all season. For the second year in a row, GB is the 7th seed. Last year they became the first 7th seed to win a playoff game by demolishing the Cowboys.
The Packers have a top 10 defense in most categories for the first time since 2010, their last Super Bowl run which ironically started in Philadelphia. But make no mistake, this squad is not THAT squad. Jordan Love has had a solid season but he is not an elite QB. Josh Jacobs had a great season but he isn't Derrick Henry or Saquon Barkley. GB is stumbling into the postseason versus surging into it as we witnessed a year ago.
The Eagles come into this game at home, rested, and with MVP candidate Saquon Barkley having his best season. The Eagles have, once again, been a team that has controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The offensive line has been terrific in the running game. The defensive front has been able to stop the run and create pressure.
Most impressive with the Eagles is their ability to take care of the ball and create turnovers. The Eagles were top 10 in the NFL in both limiting giveaways (15, tied for sixth) and creating takeaways (26, sixth). At plus-11 overall, the Eagles ranked sixth in turnover differential. Jalen Hurts protected the football, throwing only five interceptions — including just three picks after Week 1 vs. the Packers. Saquon Barkley fumbled just twice on 378 touches, although Hurts did fumble nine times. Philadelphia was 9-0 when not turning the ball over and just 3-2 when not getting a takeaway — highlighting how important winning the ball is to this game for the Packers. Eagles safeties C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Reed Blankenship combined for 10 picks. Linebacker Zack Baun forced five fumbles. Incredibly, the Eagles didn’t have an interception from a cornerback.
Philadelphia is favored and they have the ingredients for another run at the Lombardi Trophy.
