That's not why it reached the sales it did, what you just tried to pull is illogical. I understand that's a narrative that was used at the time, and made sense but that wasn't the case for the entire generation. Just at launch. Not only did DVDs players drop in price, there was an Xbox that did the same thing yet you never heard that narrative used for Xbox :ufdup:

Now back to what you tried to wish away. You didn't even acknowledge that DRE was a thing. Why they get sued worldwide for it? Since that is history you can't change. What impact did it have on total sales? If everyone was forced to get two then they really sold half the total they say and then thru nefarious practices doubled sales. And then you idiots want to celebrate the accomplishment :snoop:

I worked at funcoland at the time, Sony reps told me to my face they know about the problem and wasn't going to do shyt about it :yeshrug:
That's when I packed my shyt and been pro Xbox because they are more pro consumer.
Yall nikkas love lying

A few analytical questions....
  • How long has the Switch been out? How long was the PS2 out?
Nintendo Switch has been on the market for 7 years and 3 months
PS2 was discontinued after 12 years and 9 months.
  • How long was the PS2 out before the PS3 came out?
PS2 Launch March 4 2000 --->PS3 Launch - November 11, 2006
6 Years, 8 months

Nintendo Switch Launch - March 03, 2017 ----> Present
7 years, 3 months

  • What are the sales for each system in those time periods?
After 7 years:

Nintendo Switch - 141M
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2024/240507e.pdf (Page 14)

PS2 - Various consumer estimates/charts online have it in that 105-115M range
There's a lack of transparency in their financial statements, most likely due to the PS3.

Based on those numbers, this accolade will be well deserved. :obama:

The ps2 was outselling the ps3 for years and Sony almost went bankrupt because of it. MGS4 is what saved Sony. Moved enough systems to get investors off their back. But they had to maintain an image and so to keep investors from panicking they did something that was never done before. They combined sales of ps2 and ps3 and counted it as PS3 sales. Why?

So they could claim they outsold the Xbox 360. Sounds far fetched but since we all lived thru it and it was discussed heavily on this very website. Most of us know I'm not lying even tho it's not the mainstream narrative :yeshrug:

:hula:

I could post hundreds of truth threads like these :hhh:

Most of these aren't even the Switch generation, which is the context of the conversation. :gucci:

I'd give you the hybrid/portable console, but Sega tried that decades ago, so nah. :umad:

In fact almost all of what you listed was done by other companies long before Nintendo. :comeon: Proving my point Nintendo are just out here re-hashing their own or other people's bullshyt.

Their innovations were all either firsts or firsts in gaming. That's still innovation.
