if you are against players being paid (not even at the rate they should be proportionally to the money they generate for the university) but just off their own image as independent contractors then you are a basically supporting slavery.
i know it gets dicey when we say this, especially in the context of athletics.
no this is not chattel slavery, but supporting people not being paid for their labor while someone else profits is still a form of slavery. the "well they're getting an education" argument doesn't work if every student doesn't get a degree or gets some bullshyt degree either.
